Authorities have released the name of a 38-year-old who was killed in a shooting that also left another man injured in southwest Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Melvin Anthony Burkes. He lived in Birmingham. The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Pearson Avenue S.W.
