A partial lunar eclipse of the Harvest Moon, in tandem with a supermoon, lit up the skies Tuesday night in Fresno, a video shows.

Not only is September's full moon also a so-called "supermoon" because of its size and brightness, but it's also due to be eclipsed by Earth.

A partial eclipse of the supermoon was visible across the East of England on Tuesday night. This month's full moon, known as the Harvest moon, is the second of four supermoons expected this year. Full supermoons occur when the orbit of the moon is at "perigee" - the closest point to Earth in its orbit - which makes the Moon appear bigger and brighter in the night sky.

Stargazers were treated to a double dose of lunar spectacles in the night sky Tuesday. A partial lunar eclipse coincided with a supermoon, when the full moon made its closest approach to Earth during its elliptical orbit.
