Netflix has picked up director Stephen Chbosky's feature comedy Nonnas, which stars Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire and Brenda Vaccaro. The feature portrays a man after the loss of his mother opening up an Italian restaurant with a group of local grandmothers as chefs.

The series, based on a 1999 plane hijacking, prompted backlash on social media. Critics claimed it wrongly portrayed the Islamist hijackers as Hindus.

A web series about the 1999 hijacking of an Indian passenger plane has sparked a controversy in the country over the portrayal of some of the characters. Directed by Anubhav Sinha for Netflix, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack recounts the events surrounding the hijacking of a Kathmandu-Delhi flight which was taken to Taliban-ruled Kandahar to demand the release of militants jailed in India.

The animated series based on Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” novel “Midnight Sun” has given a straight-to-series order at Netflix, Variety has learned. The project was first reported to be in early development back in April 2023 at studio Lionsgate Television.

It seems old franchises are continuing to get new life. The Scream universe is back and thriving, a Gremlins animated series is coming soon, and now it seems we are getting more Twilight.
