In 2023, 31 mosquito pools in Cincinnati tested positive for West Nile virus, which was an increase from a previous average of just three positive pools per year, according to the Cincinnati Health Department. The last confirmed case of West Nile virus infecting a Cincinnati resident was in 2012.

The man, who is in his 60s, had recently traveled out of state, but he also could have been exposed in the Greater Boston region which is at “high” risk for exposure, state officials said Friday.
