Popular rock band loses drummer of 25 years over lack of support as he got sober
O’Connell joined the band in 2001 after the departure of Taking Back Sunday’s original drummer, Steven DeJoseph. He has recorded on all of the band’s releases from 2001’s “Lullaby” EP (2001) to 2023’s “152.” The remaining members of Taking Back Sunday have not commented on the departure yet.
"My departure wasn't an easy decision, and it wasn't entirely my own," Mark O'Connell said of his exit from the group.
