After two straight one-goal efforts, the New York Islanders (15-18-7) defeated the Boston Bruins (20-17-5) 5-4 in overtime on Sunday evening in TD Garden.
New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy placed Brock Nelson between Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal in an effort to spark the offense. The Islanders entered Sunday's showdown with the Boston Bruins scoring just four total goals over their last three games.
The 34-year-old veteran received a feed from Brock Nelson before going through the legs of netminder Adin Hill to open the scoring at T-Mobile Arena: Lee became the 10th player in Islanders history to record 800 games with the franchise and the first to score in the milestone game.
Bo Hovart scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway 3:10 into overtime and the New York Islanders snapped a three-game skid with a 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins.
Horvat, who also scored in the first period, broke in alone on goalie Joonas Korpisalo (32 saves) and wristed in the winner from the low slot. It came only six seconds after Ilya Sorokin stoned Brad Marchand at the other end, the rebound triggering Horvat’s game-winning breakaway.
• The Isles finished with 37 shots on goal; it is the first time since November 1st in Buffalo (28 games) that they had at least 35 shots on goal, ending the 5th-longest such streak in club history. That win in Buffalo was also their last road win on US soil before tonight; all four road wins in the interim had been in Canada.

Pastrnak scored twice in his second straight game, and Justin Brazeau and Cole Koepke also scored for the Bruins (20-17-5), who have lost four straight (0-3-1) and five of six (1-4-1). Joonas Korpisalo made 32 saves.
The New York Islanders notched their first win of 2025, beating the Boston Bruins 5-4 in overtime to snap a three-game skid after blowing a two-goal lead. Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal on the breakaway after some brilliance by goaltender Ilya Sorokin in the extra frame:
He admitted that it was “really healthy” for him to get a fresh start with the Bruins after things appeared to be headed nowhere with the Islanders.
Bo Horvat added the overtime winner at 3:10 to his momentum-switching first-period shorthanded goal for the Islanders (15-18-7).
