Boone County continues to lean Democratic, with Democrats winning a majority of ballot races. But there were a couple of Republican winners.

Democrat incumbent Janet Thompson secured a fourth term as Northern District commissioner, defeating a challenge from Republican Cheri Toalson Reisch. It was a relatively close race. Thompson received 1,369 more votes than Reisch, 19,371 to 18,002. There also were 18 write-in votes. So, Thompson came away with 52% to Reisch's 47.7%.

Upward of 75% total voter turnout was expected by the time polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday after about 20% of voters cast ballots ahead of Election Day.
