Migrants trying to cross the English Channel have been pictured falling into the sea as they struggle to board an inflatable dinghy on a beach in northern France. Around two dozen young men in bright orange life vests desperately tried to climb on to a black dinghy but several fell overboard as waves rocked the rudimentary boat.

The man, who was Indian and aged about 40, was in a boat which left from the town of Tardinghen in northern France, French authorities said.
