Secretary of State William Galvin opened an investigation into the Boston Election Department after multiple polling locations throughout the city were not provided a “sufficient number” of ballots for the election on Tuesday.

Secretary of State William Galvin says he will most likely appoint a receiver to seize control of Boston's election division, after some city polling locations did not have enough ballots during Election Day, causing the secretary's office to send police cars, sirens blaring, to rush extra ballots to those locations.

Secretary of State William F. Galvin said the ballot shortage was just one of a number of “significant problems” that hampered voting in Massachusetts’ biggest city.
