One person is hospitalized after a car and Brightline train collided on Wednesday morning in North Miami Beach, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Fire rescue got the call around 10 a.m. about a crash between a car and train near Northeast 165th Terrace and Biscayne Boulevard.

A car and a Brightline train collided in North Miami Beach today, tearing the vehicle in half and sending the driver to the hospital with injuries. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast 163rd Street and Biscayne Boulevard.

A violent crash between a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck and a Brightline train prompted an investigation into the status of firefighters’ driver’s licenses and has led to growing tension among city officials about transparency.

WPTV learned on Friday that Assistant Chief Kevin Green, Division Chief Todd Lynch, Captain Brian Fiorey and Driver Engineer David Wyatt with Delray Fire Rescue have been placed on leave.

They are on leave “pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed,” the fire chief said.

WPTV is digging deeper for answers weeks after a crash involving a fire truck and a Brightline train in late December. That crash left 15 people hurt including three firefighters. WPTV reporter Ethan Stein found the city’s investigation is going beyond that incident.
