As the San Francisco Bay Area enters the seventh day of a historic heat wave, forecasters are warning people to drink plenty of water and stay inside.

An excessive heat warning has been extended for much of the Bay Area through late Friday night, as a late season heat wave continues to bring hot temperatures to the region, some of which have been record-breaking.

Bay Area residents, on Saturday, sought shelter and relief from high heat. As the first week of October came to an end, most endured 100 degree heat.

More scorching temperatures were expected across much of the Bay Area on Sunday with conditions predicted to cool down Monday, meteorologists said. The National Weather Service extended excessive heat warnings for several Bay Area counties,
